I just bought a $1500 memory foam mattress and now my lower back is hurting even more than before. I can barely get up in the morning or get out of a low chair (like a car seat) some days. What could be going on here and how can I fix it. I dont have health insurance and am kinda broke so a doctor does not seem to be in my near future.

You could have blown discs which is a serious condition. Dr is a must at this point. If the rupture protudes too far into your spinal column it can paralyze you.
muscle memory…
melt the foam down into a ball and go kick it around the field for a while every day….you’ll be sleeping on the floor which might be better for you anyway.
As rebel g said, you could have bulged or ruptured discs in your back as I do. You should really go to a doctor before it gets worse. My back specialist said for someone with back problems it is best to sleep on a firm mattress. He suggested to me that I put a sheet of ply-wood in between my mattress and box springs. Since I got a firmer mattress and put the wood under it I sleep better and don’t hurt half as much as I did, especially in the mornings.
Good Luck!
Since memory foam is “conforming”, as compared to “push-back supportive”, perhaps another type foam configuration will work . . research links:
