I need to do a presentation on how to replace laptop memory. I know you are supposed to have it powered off, but I wont have time to repower it to finish the presentation. Will it really hurt anything if I pop the memory in while it is powered on?
Ok lol bad idea

Yeah. You aren’t supposed to do that. The laptop is to be turned off, battery taken out and you are to what an anti-static wrist band when putting in the memory.
Yes, it will ether damage the motherboard and/or the ram.
You must have it unpluged and the battery to before replacing the ram.
Sure, it will heart! Never do that, you may burn the motherboard. It is even recommended to pull out the battery before doing that thing.
yes you could completely fry the computer and it might not boot back up again
YES, you can damage the Memory, the MOBO or both… Can’t you barrow a 2nd laptop and use it as the demo..?
are you crazy??? you will damage the motherboard , damage the memory itself and not to mention getting electrocuted,, what are you thinking…
Let me phrase it simply:
It WILL hurt three ways
1) Your RAM will be toasted
2) Your PC will be scrapped
3) YOU will be SHOCKED (in more ways than one)
Short answer…time for a new laptop if you do.
Long(er) answer. You will blow up either the Motherboard or the RAM. Never remove, unplug or do anything to a component or switch inside a PC or Laptop until it has fully power down. you could also risk injuring yourself as the heat that builds up on components can give a nasty burn.
If you cant get a spare to do this on there there isnt much you can do.
Just shorten your presentation to give you time to do the demo. Cut a few words out here and there no one will notice
